THE CURRENT PROBLEM.

We believe that we can solve the problem of malnutrition in the elderly whether at home, in NHS or in the private care sector and improve their quality of life through our nutritionally enhanced dairy ice-cream.

In the UK it has been estimated that 1.3 million older people are malnourished, equating 11% of the population aged over 65 years (BAPEN, 2018a; Malnutrition Task Force (MTF), 2019). Other patients also struggle with swallowing related issues from surgery or their condition. Traditional approaches of encouraging people to eat more don’t work as it can be a complex mix of emotional and physical drivers preventing this.

OUR SOLUTION.

Betty’s Ice-Cream have identified a gap in the market for nutritionally enhanced ice-cream to address malnutrition in the elderly. The target customer would be community care homes and hospitals who care for elderly patients and residents.

32% of hospital admissions of over 65 are at risk of malnutrition. 35% of care home residents are at risk of malnutrition. A product that can address this will improve quality of life for individuals and address organisational risks related to a duty of care and falls avoidance. Betty’s are proposing a Nutritionally Enhanced Ice Cream to address malnutrition and the needs of patients with dementia.
